It is very rare that you put a plan in place and everything pans out perfectly. This was the case with our little super mare, Monegal. We had earmarked The Gong race day for her return from a freshen up quite some time ago. She had the perfect preparation and when the big day arrived, Brock Ryan delivered an absolute peach of a ride and Monegal stuck her head out right where it counted. This made it first up wins in metro Saturday meetings for Monegal for her past two preparations!
Golly I’m Lucky was also excellent on Gong Day, making up significant ground and producing his usual brilliant sectionals to finish 5th beaten just over 2 lengths.
Micheal Oscar returned to the winner’s circle, bursting through the pack to win nicely at Bathurst. The Guru came back from a spell with a fantastic 2nd placing at Hawkesbury.
We ended the month with a sensational day at Sapphire Coast with a winning double (courtesy of an impressive performance by Divine Breath coming from well back whilst Heaven or Hell led all the way).
Divine Breath Heaven or Hell
Freaky Freckles and Ma Bella Rosie also collected placings at Sapphire Coast making up good ground, whilst Halliday Road added further placings to his record finishing 3rd at Moruya on Melbourne Cup day and also 3rd at Bathurst.
The winning double at Sapphire Coast also bought up 50 winners for the Bateup / Jess Taylor combination!!!
We have a great team of horses in at the moment, so hopefully the winners keep coming. We also have a lovely bunch of young horses coming through, making for very exciting times!
The yearling sale season is fast approaching. Kooringal Stud are offering 21 yearlings through the Inglis Digital Online Sale in December, the Magic Millions then comes up in January quickly followed by the Inglis Classic Sale in early February.
Brock Ryan suffered a nasty fall in the final race at Canterbury on the 27th November. Brock was discharged from hospital the following day, however he sustained a fracture to his elbow which will put him on the sidelines for about 6 weeks. We wish Brock a speedy recovery.
The Sapphire Coast racing carnival is on the 30th and 31st January 2021. I have secured a sponsorship package for the Saturday which includes reserved seating and some drink tickets and I will have more details regarding arrangements for the Sunday later this week. If you are looking at attending the Sapphire Coast carnival can you please let me know so that I can include you in our numbers.
I cannot believe how quickly Christmas is approaching!!! From all of us at Bateup Racing I hope you have a safe and enjoyable festive season. 2020 has certainly been a tumultuous, crazy and trying year. As it comes to a close, I hope that you can all catch up with family and friends as restrictions ease and that we can achieve a sense of “normality” in 2021. I also look forward to catching up with those of you who can get back to the races. As restrictions continue to ease, I am hoping to be able to host an Open Day at our stables at some stage during 2021.
