We were back in the winners’ stall with Brannum and Sablonneuse both saluting during June.
Brannum has been quite consistent since joining the stable, running 2 x 2nd and 2 x 3rd placings. He finally broke through for a well-deserved win at Moruya on the 19th June. Noodles was on the quick back following an uncustomary below-par performance at Nowra 5 days earlier. He dug deep for Chad Lever to record his second career win.
The following day, Sablonneuse demolished a field at Kembla Grange when ridden by Brock Ryan. Stepping up to 2000m for the first time and going a month between runs, Freddie showed a good turn of foot. He relished the journey to win decisively by 2.3 lengths, bringing up his 3rd career win from just 11 starts. Raced by Kooringal Stud, Sablonneuse is from the first crop of their stallion, Sandbar. We have a number of his progeny in the stable, and I love them as a breed. We look forward to producing many more winners by him.
Yes Arnie has been a real war horse this preparation. He’s been up for a while but is racing very consistently and keeps chalking up placings. Arnie added a 2nd and 3rd placing during the month (both at Hawkesbury) and well and truly has his hoof on the till for a win.
London Star was extremely gallant with 59kg at Sapphire Coast, just missing another win after bullocking her way clear in the straight. London is now enjoying a break following a successful preparation, which included 2 wins and 2 placings plus a few luckless efforts.
Master Johnny has performed well in his three career starts. He wasn’t beaten far in any of them and was game when finishing 2nd at Newcastle on the 13th June.
Lantau Island produced a fantastic effort at Kembla Grange on the 2nd June, attacking the line late for a fast finishing 3rd placing. Hunter One was another solid effort, finishing 3rd at Hawkesbury on the 4th June, and Landmark Lady continues to produce some good efforts without much luck, including a good 3rd at Scone. Hussy La Vista was an eye-catching run at Moruya, finishing off strongly to finish 4th and will only continue to improve.
Mr Reiby trialled very nicely at Moruya on the 19th March and will most likely make his debut at the same track on the 10th July. There are still opportunities to be involved in racing Reiby.
We have had a number of young horses at the trials and jump-outs during the month, and the future looks promising with horses such as The Munster and Dartanu trialling very well.
Most of our yearlings have now been broken in, and the first batch of them will commence their refresher course in the coming weeks before heading into the stables for their first small preparation. We have a really nice group of yearlings coming through the system and we look forward to seeing their continued progress.

Racing Reports
Brannum had no chance at Kembla on the 2nd June when missing the start and settling back in the field. Noodle then headed to Nowra, where he was given every possible chance as he cruised up to the leader and looked like a winning chance, but didn’t go on with it.
On the quick back Noodle, then lined up at Moruya in a Benchmark 58 over 1650m with 60.5kg. Despite having a wide run in transit, he fought on gamely to record his first win for the stable and the second of his career. We were very pleased to see Noodle in the winners’ stall, and he is more than capable of adding further wins. He has enjoyed a week in the paddock since his win and will be back at the races during the month.
Sablonneuse was a month between runs when lining up at Kembla Grange on the 20th June. He was also stepping up to 2000m for the first time. After bouncing well and settling just behind the leader, he worked into the clear in the straight and showed a good turn of foot. Although Freddie found himself in front a long way out, he was strong through the line and recorded an easy 2.3 length win against a handy field of stayers. Freddie has such a great attitude and still has improvement to come. He’s likely to head to Newcastle on the 14th July over 2200m
Lantau Island produced an excellent effort at Kembla on the 3rd June over 1500m. Finally drawing a barrier, Lenny was able to settle closer in transit. Although the first two placegetters had skipped away, Lenny really hit the line strongly and was taking a lot of ground off them to finish 3rd. Lenny then had no luck from a wide barrier at Moruya and will now head to either Wagga on the 6th July or Moruya on the 10th.
Master Johnny put in a good effort on debut at Kembla over 1300m on a Heavy 8 track, where he was only beaten a little under 2 lengths. At Newcastle on the 13th June, Johnny found the front from barrier 1 and, whilst pestered the whole way, let down well and battled away strongly to finish 2nd. He found the front again at Hawkesbury over 1500m and just got run over late in the worst section of the track when finishing 5th, beaten 2.7 lengths. Johnny will now likely head to a Super Maiden at Moruya on the 10th July or Warwick Farm on the 15th July.
Yes Arnie is very much Mr Consistent and continues to pick up place-getter cheques. At Hawkesbury on the 4th June, over 1400m, Arnie was very good, finishing 3rd. He then got too far back in a messily run race at Moruya when finishing 5th. But on the quick back, he was excellent next up at Hawkesbury over 1300m, finishing 2nd. Arnie is loving his racing. Hopefully, he can break through for a well-deserved win soon.
Hunter One was another good performance at Hawkesbury on the 4th June when finishing 3rd over 1300m. Justine has had a great preparation and finished in the top three in all 5 starts.
London Star was tenacious at Sapphire Coast on the 7th June. Carrying 59kg after the claim for Dale Cole, she travelled nicely behind the leaders in the early stages. She was held up early in the straight and had to force her way into the clear, but kept finding the line. In the end, she couldn’t quite reel in the winner who had skipped away while she was held up for a run. London has been such an honest little mare all preparation and is now enjoying a break. She will return to work towards the end of July.
Landmark Lady is a bit frustrating as she produces some good, solid efforts but never seems to have much go her way. Pisa was very brave at Kembla Grange over 2000m when doing the donkey work to chase the tearaway leader. She battled on honestly to finish 4th (missing 3rd in a photo). Pisa then got too far back on the Acton track at Canberra. Next, she lined up over 2200m at Scone on the 29th June and, whilst again settled well back, worked home strongly to finish 3rd (beaten in a photo for 2nd). Pisa may head to Gosford on the 9th July over 2100m.
Hussy La Vista was sound on resuming at Sapphire Coast, settling last over 1200m and working home well to be beaten 3.5 lengths. Second up at Moruya over 1200m, Hussy again settled at the back of the field in a messy race. However, she finished off very strongly down the outside. Hussy will now appreciate stepping up to 1400m next start and should be very competitive.
Tupelo Express exceeded expectations for his first race start and handled the day like a professional. The 1200m trip is well short of his optimal distance and he was far from disgraced when beaten 3.4 lengths. Petey didn’t have much luck at Hawkesbury on the 23rd June when he stepped up to 1500m but was caught wide throughout and copped some interference in the straight.
Final Spirit made his race debut at Nowra on the 15th June, finishing 4th. Dan will take good improvement out of the run and has a very professional attitude.
Atossa also made her race debut at Nowra on the 15th June. Persia didn’t really get the chance to get into the race but handled her first day out well. She will improve as she steps up in distance.
Totally Bodacious made his race debut at Kembla on the 20th June. Jed handled the day well and will make into a nice horse next preparation.
