August Highlights

We started the new racing season in the perfect fashion when Victory at Omaha made it two in a row, leading all the way for another dominant win at Moruya on 2nd August!!!.

Steve Steve Steve kept the winning roll going with a gritty effort at Wagga on the 7th August, recording his second career win.

Proklisi is knocking on the door to win her Maiden with 3 placings from 3 starts including a good 3rd at Moruya on the 14th August. Lisi was also just run down on the line when finishing 2nd at Kembla Grange on the 27th August.

Shaka Rock returned with a nice 3rd at Moruya on the 2nd August, whilst Hope Uno didn’t have a lot of luck when hitting the line strongly to finish 3rd at Hawkesbury on the 18th August.

It has come time for Monegal to head to the next stage of her career as a broodmare and she will be sold on the Inglis Digital Online Sale on the 14th September.

Vega has been a sensational horse for the stable and it will be sad to see her go as she has been part of our team for over 6 years. We look forward to seeing what she produces and you never know, we may end up with a “little” Monegal in the stables in the future.

From a $3000 yearling purchase, Monegal has taken us on a fantastic ride, collecting 10 wins (from a Sapphire Coast Maiden to the Group 3 Epona Stakes) and a further 10 placings and just over $686,000 in prizemoney. Vega ran a gallant race in the Coffs Harbour Cup on the 4th August with 59kg to finish 4th.

We have had so much fun and enjoyed many great days out with Monegal and her owners and I would like to thank the whole ownership group including Mike, Ruth, Bill, Chris, Ric, Carolyn, Steve, Leanne and Tim as well as Monegal’s huge fan club of followers.

Monegal retires sound, and whilst still a racing proposition, now being a 7 year old we feel that it is now the best time for her to become a broodmare.

Further prizemoney increases take effect from the 1st September with an increase to Country prizemoney. The Midway races have also had a prizemoney increase. There has also been the introduction of country only races on all country race programs and a provincial only and Midway only race on every Provincial race program. These races all carry additional prizemoney. It will be interesting to see how this works as it will make finding races for some horses a little more difficult (especially in the country).

There has also been the creation of the $500,000Little Dance” on Melbourne Cup Day as a consolation for those qualified horses that don’t obtain a start in the $2 million Big Dance (which will see The Guru obtain a start in the Little Dance)!

We have a nice team of horses getting ready to hit the races later in the month and we are very much looking forward to horses such as The Guru, Superdini, Gunnaheadovski, Vain Invader and Whatsupbuttercup heading to the races, whilst the likes of Densaur and Moon Stories head to trials and jump outs.
