Bateup Racing has capped of a sensational year by registering a win percentage of 22% for the month of December 2020. Proving the result is no fluke, the impressive win percentage is still below November 2020’s rating of a remarkable 23%.
The Guru won the Kembla Grange heat of the Provincial Summer Series then River Charge won a heat of the Rising Stars Apprentice Series at Goulburn for up-and-coming apprentice Tyler Schiller.
The team then concluded the month with a trip to the Sapphire Coast. Bateup racing have had some tremendous days at Sapphire Coast but the 27th December 2020 will go down in the record books. We had runners in 5 races and came home with an outstanding 4 winners and a 3rd placing.
The “old boy” Halliday Road saluted for a well overdue win, sticking his head out at the right time to record his 5th career win (all 5 coming at Sapphire Coast!).
Alan then broke through for a well deserved Maiden win, followed by River Charge who dominated the Tathra Cup and made it back to back wins (within 8 days).
We came to the final race on the program with two chances that were not amongst the picks in the market, however the lightly raced Yote Amo Maria, appreciating the step up in distance and drop in grade, powered home to run down the favourite and win to conclude a fabulous day.

A special mention must go to our two “Golden Girls” who headed to Gosford for the Listed Gosford Guineas and Group 3 Belle of the Turf.
Divine Breath will be a city class horse and was far from disgraced finishing mid field in the Gosford Guineas at only her 4th race start after stepping up from a Sapphire Coast Maiden win.
Stable star, Monegal was outstanding in the Belle of the Turf. From a wide barrier, Vega was posted wide and without cover throughout, yet still wound up and hit the line stronger than anything in the race to finish 5th.
The craziness continues as we head into another month with plenty of the team up and racing (and our favourite carnival the 2-day Sapphire Coast Bega Cup Carnival on the 30th and 31st January).
A number of our 2yo’s will be returning for another preparation, some new horses and owners are joining the stables and the yearling sales are kicking off with the Magic Millions this month quickly followed by the Inglis Classic in February.
We hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year despite all the restrictions in place and that 2021 brings health, happiness and many winners!!!
With current Covid restrictions we are currently unable to allow owners to visit the stables. I will advise when this changes. Attendance protocols at race meetings differ greatly for each race club so please carefully read the emails you receive from Race Clubs when your horse is accepted to race.
