It has been another very busy month at Bateup Racing. Following our big weekend at the Sapphire Coast 2 day Bega Cup Carnival it was straight into sales mode at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
I spent over a week at the sales completing inspections and was very happy to secure 2 lovely colts by Headwater and Shalaa. We also secured a nice Invader filly!
It was a little quieter on the racing front with only 12 runners for the month however we still produced 3 winners, a 3rd placing and 3 x 4th placings
These included a super performance by Golly I’m Lucky in the $150,000 Canberra Mile). Without Equal broke through for a well over due win at Wagga whilst we claimed another double at the Sapphire Coast with Halliday Road making it back to back Pambula Cup’s and the promising Deni Gal winning at only her second race start!!!
Alan was a bit unlucky in finishing 3rd at the same meeting whilst Old Man’s Angel and Foxtrot Bravo produced honest efforts.
We head back to Sapphire Coast on Monday 1st March with a big team and hopefully a few winners amongst them.
There was a massive announcement by Racing NSW in the past week with prizemoney increases announced as well as the creation of the MIDWAY RACES. These races will be similar the TAB Highway Races (however will be restricted to horses from small – mid sized provincial and metropolitan stables) and will be run on the Saturday metropolitan meeting each week and worth $100,000!
This is a much welcomed announcement and finally gives our horses and owners the opportunity to be racing for excellent prizemoney on the “big stage” each Saturday. More details are to be provided on the conditions of these races and they will commence from the 1st July 2021. Prizemoney for all country race meetings will also increase from the 1st July 2021.
