January Highlights

January was a very busy month and the New Year began in the finest possible fashion when Crackalackawon the Moruya Cup with a superb performance for Molly Bourke. The Moruya Cup is a Big Dance Qualifier so Cracka has her dancing shoes ready for the 1st Tuesday in November!!!

Cracka has done a fantastic job since joining the stable. Having arrived in the stables as a Mudgee Maiden winner from 6 starts for the Kris Lees stables, Cracka has had 11 starts for our stable for 4 wins (including the Narooma Town Plate and Moruya Cup). She has now earned over $100k in prizemoney, with the promise of more to come!

In other notable racing results for the month Divine Breath added yet another Midway placing to her record when running 3rd at Rosehill on the 7th January, and Hope Uno continued her consistent form when just nosed out on the line to finish 2nd at Moruya on the 12th January.

We also had a number of the team back at jump outs during the month with the likes of Steve Steve Steve, Inspired Dream, Mystic Diva, Magic Alwyns and Barbarama featuring at jump outs and due to trial again on the 8th February before heading to the races. A couple of our 2yo’s, Mulvader and “Stubby” are also heading to the jump outs on the 8th February.

January also featured the Magic Millions Yearling Sale (the first of the major yearling sales for the year). Whilst the Queensland weather was a bit erratic and unpredictable we came home with 3 lovely yearlings to join the Bateup Racing Team.

The first was a very strong colt by first season Everest winning sire, Yes Yes Yes and from proven producer Chatham House. “Arnie” has been very popular and is already full subscribed.

We also purchased an elegant Shalaa filly. She is from the stakes winning Bel Esprit mare, Gabbidon, who has had 5 runners for 4 winners. “Gabbi” is a nice style of filly.

Our final purchase was a very athletic and great moving colt by Headwater out of a Not A Single Doubt mare, Liamena, who has already produced 2 winners. “Leo” is a November foal and has a good frame to develop into.

The Sales focus shifts to the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale on the 12th – 14th February at the Riverside Sales Complex at Warwick Farm. I will be attending all 3 days as well as heading up for inspections in the week prior to the sales. Anyone who would like to attend is more than welcome and I will have some ringside dining seats available on Tuesday 14th February.
