Kembla Grange trainer Theresa Bateup had a plan with Monegal since August to win on the biggest day on her home track, and dreams do come true.
Under Kembla apprentice Brock Ryan, Monegal came with the final run to claim Night Of Power in the shadows of the post to close the program with a local winner.
“It has always been about the November 21 with her since the last run,” Bateup said. “I sat and watched this meeting on my couch over the back there last year and just wanted to have a runner.

“But to have one that was good enough to win and get the job done is incredible.
“I booked Brock for this ride a couple of months ago, and he did all the work on her to have her right for this day.
“She only cost $3000 and has now won $300,000, and I would like to try and get some black type with her now.”

Monegal gave Ryan his first metropolitan Saturday double after he won the Highway Handicap on She’s All In earlier, and he came back with a big smile.
“It was perfect and she did the rest,” Ryan said. “I have been waiting for her all day and to win in front of my family and friends on our biggest day is amazing.”
