Who is your favourite race caller? It’s one of those timeless questions that everyone in racing has an opinion on. For us, the answer is straight forward – John Tapp by a panel of fencing.
Why? He has a genuine passion for racing centred around the horses and people that make up our industry. This was always reflected in the enthusiasm and warmth of Tappy’s calls and helped develop a love of racing for many people, including a young Theresa Bateup who knew his call of Super Impose’s Doncaster wins off by heart.

His hands-on experience with horses was reflected in his ability to read a race but, more importantly, Tappy has the “gift of the gab”. He could create a word picture that led to race calls that were fast and accurate but at the same time entertaining. His calls were always different. You never had the feeling that John Tapp was going through a bored routine, even though his career spanned 50,000 calls.
With all this in mind, Theresa was thrilled to be asked to give an interview telling her story on www.johntapp.racing. His website does podcasts and articles about racing’s people and horses. As you would expect, more often than not, John Tapp’s focus is away from the industry’s highflyers.
