Bull Point is doing a good job at stud and this filly is a half-sister to 3 winners.

X-Rays were low risk.

Yearling Colt by Hellbent – Mistress O’Reilly

A lovely style of horse that is going to continue to develop being a November foal.

I have been quite impressed by the Hellbent progeny and very pleased to secure this colt that was born and raised at Middlebrook Valley Lodge. We have a great association with Middlebrook which has been the breeding ground for some of our stable stars including Monegal, Dvine Breath, Foxtrot Bravo, Alan, Steve Steve Steve etc.

X-Rays were low risk.

Yearling Filly by Star Turn – Londinium

This was my Number 1 pick out of the sale. A typical Star Turn type, this filly is compact, very sharp looking and could be an early runner. She is strong and moves well.

I also love this family and know it well. Londinium was trained by Kris Lees and was talented but had a few issues in the barriers. Londinium is the half sister to River Charge (who has so far won 3 races for us and placed in the Wagga Guineas) and Eskimo River (who could gallop but was very accident prone). The female side of the family goes back to the great Mahogany!

X-rays were low risk.

  • Progress: The filly was sent to Kooringal after the sale and will head to the breaker later this month

Starcraft x Sublissime Gelding – “Stubby”

This horse was always going to be on my radar being the half-brother to Monegal and Foxtrot Bravo.

The Saturday after I bought him, Stubby’s  purchase price looked even cheaper when our very own Monegal earned black type, winning the Group 3 Epona Stakes!

A late November foal, he is already 420kg but is going to develop further. He is a good bodied horses with a good forearm and gaskins. He is still open in the knees and “bum high” – signs that he still has some growing to do. He has a good overstep and a quality head.

I have already had “Stubby” gelded. X-rays were “low risk” with time and scoping was Grade 1.

He is currently spelling at Kooringal Stud and will head to the breakers in 2 – 3 months’ time.

Yearling Filly by Scissor Kick – Miss Mushu

A lovely bodied filly with a fantastic head, this filly is from the Encosta De Lago mare, Miss Mushu.

The cross has already worked with the full sister Kung Fu Mushu a winner for the Snowden stable. Miss Mushu has also produced the well performed, stakes placed horse High Mist. Her dam, Lady Mulan was a very well performed stakes winning mare and proven producer.

This filly reminds me a lot of Divine Breath, especially in the head. With Scissor Kick now standing in France this will be his last crop on offer in Australia.

Progress: This filly will arrive at Kooringal Stud this week and head to the breakers in the next month.

Invader x Angora Gelding – “Andy”

I absolutely loved this boy!

He is very typical of the Invader breed with a short back, good hindquarter, good gaskins and the “Invader” head. He is also a very nice mover with a great overstep.

“Andy” is out of the proven producing mare Angora who’s now had 10 winners from 11 to race. Two of her foals have won since the catalogue was printed. Her 3 year old “Otillie” by Air Force Blue won at Hawkesbury last week for the Waterhouse / Bott stable. Her 4yo Asserting by Super One also joined the family winning list, notching up 2 victories in recent months.

Angora’s 10 winning foals have so far included 2 stakes horses. The Stakes winning Canali and the Stakes placegetter Vilayet.

Angora herself was a good race mare winning as a 2yo and being Stakes placed in both the Reginald Allen Handicap and the Illawarra 2yo Classic.

I’ve already had “Andy” gelded. His X-rays were “low risk” and scoping was Grade 1

Andy is currently spelling at Kooringal Stud and will head to the breakers in approximately 4-8 weeks’ time.

Yearling Filly by Deep Field – Buckleupbuttercup “Wednesday”

This is a lovely athletic filly that will continue to develop with time.

Deep Field needs little introduction. With only 4 crops of racing age, he has an impressive winners: runners ration of 66% and stands at a service fee of $88,000. His leading runners include Portland Sky, Cosmic Force and the Hong Kong Group 1 winner, Sky Field.  Buckleupbuttercup was a high class race mare in the US winning 7 races from 12-1600m including one at Group 2 level and another at Group 3 Level.

Inspection notes: “Nice size, body and depth. Lovely feminine head. Good gaskin. Still a little close in front (will mature and fill out). Good overstep. Has a scar on the front of her off side fetlock from a cut sustained at the start of the sales preparation (superficial only). A lot more refined type than Whatsupbuttercup (the half-sister that we have). Her X-Rays are low risk and Scope is a Grade 1.

Wednesday is currently at the breakers.

Yearling Filly by Star Turn – Classy Manhattan

This filly is a real running type. I have been a big fan of the Star Turns and am very pleased to finally have one in the stable.

Star Turn is shaping as a very reliable stallion. He was fifth on last year’s 1st season sires list (behind Extreme Choice; Capitalist; Flying Artie and Shalaa) and has carried on with the job this year. He is currently ranking 4th on the 2nd season sires list and now ahead of Extreme Choice, Flying Artie and Shalaa. Four of Star Turn’s five leading stakes horses to date have been fillies.

Classy Manhattan is a half-sister to Property who won two Group 3 races as a 2 year old. Property was by Starcraft and our new filly’s breeders have sought to repeat this success by putting their mare to Star Turn who is a grandson of Starcraft. Our filly is the 2nd foal out of Classy Manhattan and her first foal, a 2 year old full brother by Star Turn, is in the Matthew Dunn stable.

Inspection notes: Average sized filly with more growing to do. Compact, short back, good depth and strength. Good gaskin and over step. Cute Head! Her X- Rays are low risk and Scope is Grade 1.

Star is currently at the breakers.

Yearling Filly by Prized Icon – Simply Delightful

This filly was on my radar for some time, being the half-sister to Densaur.

This filly is from Prized Icon’s first crop. Heis a magnificent looking individual and, having seen quite a number of his progeny I am confident he will make his mark as a sire. My breaker has already broken in a number of the Prized Icon progeny this season and has been very impressed with them. He especially likes their temperament and how quickly they learn.

We have a very good opinion of Densaur and I think this filly will come to hand a bit earlier She is also a half-sister to multiple city winner, Invictum Domina.

Inspection Notes: She is a great type and a lovely balanced and strong filly that covers the ground well. She looks like a race horse and has a beautiful, intelligent head.

This filly has completed her breaking in and is currently spelling at Kooringal

Yearling Filly by Sooboog – Shimasani

An athletic, well grown filly that moves very well.

She is from the family of Episode, Becerra and First Seal. Out of the Royal Academy mare, Shamasani (herself a 3 time winner and city winner). She has already produced 6 foals to race for 4 winners. A filly with a great pedigree and plenty of stamina through the female side of the family.
The Sooboog progeny are starting to hit their straps as 3 yo’ s and I have been impressed with the breed since I first saw his yearlings at the sales

Progress: This filly will arrive at Kooringal Stud this week and head to the breakers in the next month.

Three Year Old Filly by Curata Storm – Dignity Lady

“Megan” is a 3yo filly and is a half-sister to the very well performed Noble Boy!

Megan has had a preparation in the stables and progressed very well through the preparation. The Curata Storm’s typically continue to improve with time. She is a well grown filly and a good type. She had a good attitude towards her work during her preparation in the stables.

Megan returned to the stables for her second preparation on 4th April.  I would anticipate that she will progress to jump out / barrier trial stage this preparation.

Megan has also been given her official race name – Social Etiquette.

Two Year Old Filly by Smart Missile – Pompidou

“Pommie” is a great type of filly by the prolific winner producing stallion, Smart Missile and is out of a Lonhro mare that won 6 races.

Pommie has been raised at Kooringal Stud and was broken in by Darrell Burnet. She had a spell following her breaking in followed by a refresher with Darrell and then spent most of January in our stables

Pommie is well put together and has handled the work well. She moves nicely and has that toughness and bit of attitude that you like to see in fillies. She completed her first preparation and returned to Kooringal Stud for a spell on the 31st January.

Podium Glory

2yo Gelding by Olympic Glory out of Katie Kerfuffle

He is a great bodied horse and a good size with a good overstep. He is very well related and comes from a good producing mare who has already produced 3 winners including the stakes placed Selita and city winner Turnley. He is a horse that will take a little more time than the filly.

“Clancy” did everything right in his fjirst preparation and has a very cool, calm temperament. He is currently spelling at Kooringal Stud where he will continue to fill out into his big frame.

Apache Rogue

2yo Filly by Real Impact out of No Sail

I very much liked this filly at the sales and she was a very athletic individual with a lot of scope. She has a very sweet head and was nicely put together and had low risk x-rays. She is the first foal out of a Beneteau mare and looks like a runner.

Apache has completed her first preparation in the stables with a good attitude towards her work. She is now spelling at Kooringal Stud where she will mature and thicken a bit further.

Flying Artie x Snow Robin Filly

This filly has developed into a lovely scopey type. I saw her at the 2020 Scone sale where she was still quite immature. She has now developed greatly and is a good sized filly with plenty of scope. By the sire of the moment Flying Artie, she is the first foal out of a very speedy Shamardal mare who won three races.

Progress Update

“Hera” is developing nicely and made excellent progress this preparation, making it through to the jumpouts where she hit the line nicely and Apprentice Madison Waters was full of praise for her.

Invader x Snow Robin Filly

– Stable name “Dolly”

This filly has developed considerably since being broken in By Invader, who is producing fantastic types and is off to a flying start with his first crop of early 2 year olds notching up 4 winners from 7 runners to date.  Robin is also the second foal out of a very speedy Shamardal mare who won three races.

I am a huge fan of the Invader progeny and am impressed with how he stamps them.

I am not the only one thinking this. Invader has been one of the talking points of this year’s sales.  He is throwing “trainers’ types” that typically have a fluid walk with big over step and plenty of power, just like their sire.

Invader was the2nd leading first season sire by average price at the Classic Sale. His yearlings averaged $133,500 with a top price of $375,000.

Invader, by Champion sire Snitzel, won the Group 1 Sires Produce at Randwick over 1400m. Unluckily scratched from the Golden Slipper due to a stone bruise, he blitzed them in the Sires Produce.

Snow Robin

Dolly’s dam, Snow Robin was blessed with a lot of speed, winning 3 from 860m – 1030m. Dolly is her 2nd foal.

Pedigree Notes

Starcraft who stood for some time at Arrowfield stud, nicked well with Danehill and his sons. Ken’s pedigree contains this pattern with 2 crosses of Danehill through his sons Exceed and Excel and Rock of Gibraltar.

Progress: Dolly is now spelling after completing her first preparation at the stables in January and I could not be more pleased with her progress
