Jarrett to improve in time

Jockey Jess Taylor believes consistent three-year-old Jarrett’s best is yet to come after she piloted the gelding to another victory at the Sapphire Coast on Tuesday.

Trained by Kembla trainer Theresa Bateup, Jarrett led all the way to chalk up his second career win by a nose over the fast-finishing Rapture Miss.

“He is a really nice horse going forward,” Taylor told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

“He keeps improving every start and as much as he nearly got beat, he is feeling better, extending better and is taking that next step every time he races.

“Next prep I think he is going to be a really nice horse.”

Taylor found the front from barrier two and Jarrett showed a strong kick at the top of the straight to give his rivals something to catch.

Matt Dale’s challenger Rapture Miss emerged from the pack, but ran out of time to run Jarrett down, with Dragon’s Blood a distant third.

“I think he is a better horse if he has something to chase,” Bateup told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

“He gets that little bit lost out in front and I think the second horse goes pretty good.

“It was looming up on him pretty quick and I don’t think he realised it was there.

“I am happy to get away with that one.”
