Whilst October produced another frustrating string of placings and good performances, I was relieved to return to the winners circle in style with a double at Sapphire Coast on Thursday. This came courtesy of an impressive debut performance by Direct Fire and a well-deserved win by Magic Alwyns!!!
October highlights included:
- Shaka Rock running a brave 3rd in the Cootamundra Cup.
- Mulvader producing an excellent performance at only his second race start to finish 2nd at Newcastle
- Tartana working home solidly to finish 3rd at Newcastle over 1400m and then finishing 2nd at Kembla in her first attempt at 1600m
- Collecting another 2 second placings at Moruya with Skaifee who led all the way but was just to be run down in the final strides and Alan who burst through the field to finish 2nd in the Benchmark 58.
- Crackalacka, who has had no luck at all in three runs this preparation but worked home strongly at Kembla Grange on the 21st to finish 3rd beaten just over a length.
Crackalacka also ran a great race in the $500k Four Pillars
on Saturday where she hit the line hard to be beaten only 3.5L under a
great ride from Molly Bourke. She is also qualified for the $3 million Big Dance
at Randwick on Melbourne Cup Day where she has drawn nicely in barrier
4. If Cracka pulls up well from the Four Pillars and especially if the
forecast rain arrives in Sydney early in the week she may back up in the
Big Dance .. albeit a very tough race.
The Guru also heads to Randwick on Cup Day
for the Midway over 1800m and steps up to a much more suitable distance
and back to his right grade. We will also have runners at Kembla Grange (Mulvader and Shaka Rock) and at Sapphire Coast (Alan, Super Kontiki, Proklisi and Whatsupbuttercup) on Cup Day.
A big congratulations to Taylor Drayton and Hudoo Vudoo who competed successfully at the inaugural Equimillions Horse Show! Taylor has done an exceptional job with Hudoo Vudoo. They were sponsored by Racng NSW in the Equimillions and finished 3rd in the 80cm show jump and 4th
in a field of 24 in the amateur eventing class. It is so pleasing to
see our ex race horses excelling in their careers post racing. Taylor
works at Kooringal Stud and you can read more about her background here
The Sapphire Coast Bega Cup 2 day carnival is fast approaching (3rd and 4th February).
We will once again be sponsoring races on the program and will have our
own area set aside for clients on both race days. We will be attending
the Calcutta at Club Sapphire on the Saturday night and there will be a
“Bateup Racing Team” dinner for clients and stable followers on the
Sunday night. As usual it promises to be a huge and fun weekend. If you
are planning on joining us, I would suggest booking accommodation if you
haven’t already done so.
