After a string of yearling sales where prices have been through the roof, the HBTA (Scone) Sale turned out to be a “buyers’ market” presenting plenty of opportunities for bargain hunters.
Although the average sale price was up 9% to $19,202, this was about a better quality catalogue. The reality is that there were a lot of disappointed vendors with plenty of good quality yearlings from decent families selling at very attractive prices
Having put in 3 days, inspecting around 90% of the catalogue, I found myself in a position to bid with confidence, taking advantage of weaker than expected buyer competition, especially on the second day. I was the equal top buyer by number of horses and am delighted that 11 new yearlings have joined the stable from this sale. We’ve already had significant interest from clients but the opportunity remains to join us in racing 9 of these horses
As well as the Sale yearlings we also have shares available in a nice yearling colt by Smart Missile and Factorize, a tried horse who is ready to race and will arrive at our stable this week.
